name | nām | noun. a word or set of words by which a person, animal, place, or thing is known, addressed, or referred to.
When I was younger, I was not thrilled that I had such a common name. It didn't really bother me since I didn't personally know anyone with my name but I was aware that there are millions of Jessica's out there and I'm just another girl named Jessica. Originally, my parents were going to name me Jessica Mae (corny because I was born in May), but they already thought my full name (Jessica Lavarias Rosario) was long already with just Jessica as my first.
As I got older, I started to appreciate this name my parents gave me. When it came to celebrities, the name Jessica was attached to such beautiful women such as Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Jessica Simpson. I'm not sure if Jessica Rabbit counts so much. Two years ago, I came across a Glamour magazine with Mariah Carey on the front. I bought this magazine for two reasons, the spread with Mariah Carey's Hello Kitty filled bathroom and a short column called, "The Power of the Jessica Gene" as follows,
The Power of the Jessica Gene Biel, Simpson, Alba, and Rabbit—all hot, all Jessicas. Coinky-dink, or are their names the source of sexiness? We asked linguist and Northwester University assistant professor Jessica maye, Ph.D. "My guess is that it's just coincidence. I'll bet the name was popular when these actresses were born." (She's right: Jessica was a top baby name in the early eighties.) So does Maye thank her parents for being trendy? "I used to hate my name, but I actually really like it now," she says. Sexiness by association: definitely a Do. -Lauren Bradshaw (Glamour, 11/2007)
I was euphoric when I read it. Then and there, I believed that Jessica is one of the greatest names a girl can have. I know that I mustn't dwell on the fact that I am another Jessica but rejoice from all the wonderful women that carry it.
I'm a Harry Potter fanatic, so when I found out that J.K. Rowling's daughter name was Jessica; it brought a smile to my face.
In my leisure time, I like to read blogs or “surf the internet.” It was somewhat a hobby for me ever since the fourth grade. Call me a person with no life but it was what I did. I wouldn’t really say that I researched a lot of things; I just so happen to come upon a lot of interesting things. Even on MySpace, I know I wasn’t the only one checking out others pages back when MySpace didn’t have the “friends only” feature.
I stumbled upon a MySpace page that was interesting called G. Rice Army. They made homemade custom necklaces of M-14’s (I think) and such. I wanted to cop “the twins” but I was an unemployed high schooler that couldn’t afford to cough up $70 for a necklace. I used to be an avid blog reader of G. Rice Army’s founder, Jessica Tong, back when her blogs were about G. Rice Army itself but slowly became a fashion blog, which isn’t so much a personal blog anymore. I don't even think she makes them anymore? Since everyone's on Facebook, does anyone remember those "Who I'd Like To Meet:" modules on MySpace. Jessica Tong was on my list. After years of not following her blog anymore I was reminded by her by another Jessica. Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco, that is.
Earlier today, I found myself lurking on Raaachem's personal blog. I am an avid reader of the Hellz blog, so that's how I found her blog. On Rach's blog, an entry mentioned Yoshi's post about being an outcast. I immediately went to Yoshi's blog to read it. This post was heartfelt because I could relate to it in some ways but that's a whole other post. As I was reading it, she reminded me much of my godmother in a way that she knew was so-en panties were and that she also grew up in South City/Daly City area as my godmother did. I chatted a bit with Yoshi via Twitter about this coincidence. And out of no where, I decided to check my godmother's facebook to see if she had Yoshi as a friend, but she did not. In doing so, I discovered that Yoshi was friends with Jessica Tong. Big shocker! Yoshi said she was a part of G. Rice Army so I quickly went on MySpace to check my favorites since G. Rice Army is on my list. Yoshi mentioned that she had short shaved hair. I looked through the pictures posted on the G. Rice Army MySpace and first person that looked like Yoshi was the girl wearing V's. For some reason, I always thought Jessica Tong and Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco somewhat had resemblance in their facial features and because they're from [South] San Francisco but now live in New York. Let alone have the same first name. I thought, "No way. They're friends?" Then I knew, Yoshi is another beautiful non-celebrity woman that carries the same name as I do. I love it.
