CRIMSON&CLOVER,

Source: Noble

While talking to my friend, Matthew, we were discussing his future brand name and another mutual friend's brand name. At this time, I was listening to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' rendition of Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover." I really like the song, but I wanted to know what "Crimson & Clover" meant. And to my surprise, I wasn't alone.

After doing much research on the meaning behind "Crimson and Clover," here are people's theories..

- A guy who takes a girls' virginity where the crimson is her "first-time blood" and clover is the large grass they're laying on.
- A guy who thinks he can love a girl and looks at how their names would look like together, Crimson and Clover.
- Crimson as fire, clover as weed. "Beautiful feeling" = being high.
- A combination of a guy who is stoned and wants to "clover, over and over" a girl, meaning he wants to have sex with her, over and over.
- In a book, Tommy James & the Shondells anthology, Tommy explains that when he was young, he liked expressing himself through colors, red and green happened to be two of his favorite colors. And that there is no such sexual meaning to the song.
- In a interview, Tommy James said that Crimson and Clover were just two words that he liked together. And that crimson is his favorite color and clover is his favorite flower.

It's such a beautiful song that when I first heard it, I thought it was about a boy and a girl named Crimson and Clover, too. But from the books and interviews with Tommy James, I think that crimson is his favorite color and clover is his favorite flower, but also about both red and green are his favorite colors and that colors were a way to express his feelings when he was younger note.
