Over the past 2. I made some big decisions. Those decisions consist of moving back home to San Francisco and attending school there. I kept it to myself because I didn't want to jinx my chances of moving back home. I still haven't told a lot of friends yet that I'm moving back home, but inevitably, they will find out.
I requested some information from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), again. The same admissions advisor I spoke to two years ago contacted me. I went through the whole process before so I already knew what I had to do but I didn't actually go through with it two years ago. Within the time frame of 5-6 days, I had to get my high school/college transcripts, get three recommendations, write an admissions essay, do the entrance project that consisted another essay and portfolio, apply online which cost $25 for application fees, etc. It's possible, and I suggest for future applicants to have this stuff done before requesting info from the school, it helps. Even though I did it within the time span I was given even though I knew the process already, it is doable.
When I went decided on FIDM back in 2008, I thought it was too much to do within 5 days, but this time around, I got myself to do it. I also backed down because tuition fees were so expensive for just an Associates of Art degree. But not matter what, I want to get a Bachelor of Science degree whether it's from FIDM or if I want to transfer out after.
After actually doing research this time, I was taken back a bit about how negative past students were towards FIDM but it did not stop me for trying again. Even with the negative, there was much more positive feedback.. I'm kind of glad that I took another year to decide if FIDM was right for me because I am not the same person I was two years ago, I learned so much the past year.
During my school interview last Friday (April 30th), I had my "second interview," only because I already went through the process before. This second interview was basically all the paperwork and the day that would let me know if I got accepted or not.
Initially, I was going for Textile Science but it was not offered at the San Francisco campus. Two years ago, I was interested in their Graphic Design, Fashion Design, and Merchandise Product Development majors but I chose a route that interested me now which is Merchandise Marketing.
Yes, FIDM is expensive but I did my research of other art schools and I have to say that FIDM's tuition is one of the cheapest of the private art schools. People always think, "Did you hear about FIDM because of Lauren Conrad (LC) of Laguna Beach/The Hills?" No! I heard about it through my sister in high school.
Independent female contemporary street wear brand, DimePiece Designs' founders Laura Fama and Ashley Jones graduated from FIDM.. to high-end fashion designer, Monique Lhuillier. In 2008, Leanne Marshall, who attended FIDM in San Francisco, won Project Runway that season.
Anyway.. on with the interview process, I got accepted. I was scared for a bit that I wasn't, but they loved me. They did note my essays a lot, they thought I was a really good writer. I do love writing, but I don't see myself doing that as a career. After they accepted me, they gave me this tote bag that they give everyone that gets accepted. The director gave me the black/silver one because the other one was tan and pink, which I did not mind. I expected it already since I did read other girls' blogs about it.
I start in the Summer, and I'm super excited for orientation to get my student identification card, planner, and the large infamous FIDM tote! I heard that on the first day of classes, you bring your tote and they fill it with a bunch of books and class materials that you paid for. I'm really excited for the job fair applications, too. Everything sounds so exciting!
FIDM has so much resources which I will be taking advantage of. From what I have read and been told by my admission advisor.. there will be projects every week, but I am up for that challenge. The admissions entrance project was just the first of many more future projects.
I'm excited to move back home.. with the exception of having arguments with my mom. So, I plan to stay most of my days/nights after school at FIDM's library or at the public library because I know being at home will not keep me focused. I will definitely miss Sacramento, but that will be in another blog post.
I want to document my experience on my blog, so yes, I will be writing more often. Just click on the FIDM labels tag if you're ever interested in the future.

CONGRATS! That's awesome :) I imagine great things will come out of your experience, and I can't wait to read about it!
Merchandise marketing sounds great, I'm majoring in communication and minoring in marketing... kind of an entrepreneur type a route, and I like it (although my school is different from yours and the experience varies). I imagine you'll love your courses and the people as well :)
Thanks Alyssa! What school do you attend?
I really can't wait to start and I will blog about my experience! (:
No prob girl! I go to San Diego State. Nothing too crazy, just the whole impacted BS sucks.. limitations on classes until you meet certain requirements and whatnot. Otherwise, it's coo!
Sweeeeet, can't wait to read up on your stories! You should take pictures too, it'd be cool to live "vicariously" through it haha. x]
Haha, yeah. I plan on taking pictures of projects and even around campus and during orientation, too.
